How do you transfer your cell phone number to another carrier?

Does anyone know the process on how to do this? Are there any fees? Do you contact your current carrier and let them know you are changing service and transferring your phone number? thanks!|||Troy have a conclusion for your solution . They are planned to link all the service provider into one global communication with in 2010 .After wards only you can transfer your cell number into another service provider now its not possible.....|||You need to call your provider and tell them you want to switch networks so you need your PAC number. They will give you this for free. Then either pop into the new providers store and give them the PAC number so they can sort it out when you get your new phone or call their customer services and they will port your number over to your new handset on their network. Its really simple.
