I am planning on moving to AZ in June and I am trying to find a good moving company. I keep hearing that I shouldn't use brokers but use carrier movers instead but I can't seem to find any good information on why. Are broker moving companies scammers? What is so bad about them?|||A carrier is the actually moving company that moves your goods. A broker is a middleman that finds a carrier for you.
Brokers are not inherently bad, they can serve the purpose of price shopping for you and can have access to discounts that you don't have (because they book lots of moves).
The moving industry can be a bit shady in general and there are both brokers and carriers that are bad apples. The important thing is to research all the companies you are considering thoroughly to make sure that you don't pick one of the bad apples.
Here's a couple of additional articles you can read to help choose a company

1. I am a carrier and will move your belonging from point A to Point B for an agreed upon price. I am insured and my company will take full responsibility for your personal effects while they're in our possession. We have solid references and and excellent track record with no losses due to damages and we always deliver on time. You can contact us after the move if there are any problems.
2. I am a moving broker. I have a cell phone number. I'll find somebody to move you. Your belongings will arrive whenever and we're sorry if your family heirloom was destroyed...or you might never see your personal effects again. You can call me after the move if there's problems...if my cell phone number is still active.
A broker is just a middle man that will charge you a fee for finding you a mover. Go with the carrier!|||Another major problem with brokers is that you often don't know who your moving company will be. So there's no way for you to make sure your moving company isn't a scammer. Deal directly with the moving company that will use you, and be sure to check them out thoroughly.
