I want to get him vaccinated but I don't know how to get him into the carrier. Will he bite once released from the carrier? He doesn't have his rabies shot so I don't want him to bite me or the vet. Please help. He is normally a sweet cat, and always rubs up against me. I've been feeding him for a month now, and I wan't to adopt him. I hope putting him in a cage doesn't alter his behavior. He is a orange tabby.|||Thats really sweet of you adopting him. I wish more people in the world were like you.
Get some ham or something for him, or any meat and put it in there for him :)|||He will be ok once he gets out of the cage. He will fuss and hiss and be upset that he is in the cage, but cats quickly get over these things. And no, cats generally will not bite when released from the cage. After shots they will often go hide somewhere and sleep the stress off. Don't be concerned if the cat has a little fever after the vaccines, that is very common. Give it 24 hours and the cat will be ok.
Use food... fish smelling food or catnip works. You can also try some beef flavored baby food and cats love that too.
The vet will know how to handle the cat, dont worry about him/her getting bitten, they are professionals and have done this a thousand times.|||I'd take it easy for a while. You have to build up trust. Perhaps getting him vaccinated isn't that important at the moment. If he is feral, he may have in-built immunity for most things. However, it is probably more important to have him neutered. If you can have this done without too much trauma, you will find that he becomes more placid and loving. His vaccination can be done at the same time. How do you know he hasn't had any shots? Do you know his age? Seven to nine months is the best time to have toms neutered.|||Only with food will you get him in there, something to think about vets will come to your house it cost a little more but then your not taking him out of his environment he is now use to.
I was wondering if you do get him and take him in would he then run off when you get him home because he's just now trusting you.
You might call the vet ask the price between taking him in and having them come out to your house. This would only be for one time.
Best Wishes !|||Try some treats or catnip, or both. Most cats love the smell of fish treats. Possibly wear some work gloves trying to get him in there. Also talk to him alot when he's in there and maybe put some more treats in to let him know it's not a bad place. Treat him with love and use a soft voice :) Good Luck|||I just had to do this today.. I put on thick leather gloves and just grabbed him when he came near. I had someone open the carrier and close it after he was in. He hissed and wasn't too happy but it was for the best. Doc said he has a tumor on his brain. :( poor lil guy|||I had the same problem once. Try putting a piece of string, tuna or a treat in the cage. It worked for me. He shouldnt bite after he gets out of the cage, but he might hide.|||Wrap him up in a towel and cover his head when you put him in the carrier. And warn the vet's that he is feral so they can change their handling of him.|||Put a can of tuna in there and shut it when he goes in. He might be a little scared at first, but it won't affect him in the long term.|||Food works every time.. Start feeding him at the door and gradually move the food farther back in the carrier.. I got a horse in a trailer using the same method..|||try putting the some tuna or cat food in the carrier[= he should get used to it by the time you get to the vet(:|||just try to put him in there and see how he acts... give him some food
or start feeding him in there... or put treats in there for him.
w/ a nice blanket to lay one... (towel will do)|||put a good amount of tuna in the carrier and talk sweetley to him, it worked w/ my cat
