I am taking my hamster to the vets later today and have a carrier to take it in, but does it need any sawdust or bedding in there with it when i take it?|||Yes just put saw dust on the bottom. It will be doing its necessarys while its in there. Don't worry about making it a 5***** palace for him/her. Hamsters arnt that bothered. Just a hamster carrier and saw dust in the bottom will be fine. You might want to put a rug or cloth over it if its see through because it might scare it with all the light/people. Hope it has a nice trip out lol, John
OH BTW DONT USE NEWSPAPER! THE INK IS TOXIC AND 1. IT WILL MAKE THE HAMSTER BLACK %26amp; 2. IT COULD CAUSE IT SERIOUS ILLNESS..IF NOT DEATH!|||no the little guy will be fine- if you want you could put a small towel just for comfort but he would be ok either way- you're going to be there for an hour tops so you don't have to go nuts.|||you need to make the animal comfortable, so just do that the best way you know how.|||I would either go to petsmart or walmart and buy a pet carrier that has holes on the top. when i got my hamster, i got it in a cardboard box with holes in it, so i guess you can do that if you can't get the carrier. i wouldn't put any bedding in with it.|||Have water on hand, because when they get nervous they drink water a lot. You might want to give her one or two treats along the way to make her feel comfortable. You can put some hay for her to much on in there. This is only for spacious carriers. If you don't want to do any of that, just take a really small towel and wrap it up gently in it. Really gently. Have the head sticking out, so she can breathe.
I use this mostly with rabbits, but I'm trying to help. I think that some bedding, water and hay would be fine. Usually, just take your pet to the vet. If you're traveling, you might want to consider the above suggestions.
I hope this helped! =) (As I said, this is mostly used for rabbits.)
Please don't go overboard with trying to get your pet comfy. It'll be just fine. It's just a trip.|||I would say, no matter what anyone else tells you,
the MOST important thing you MUST ABSOLUTELY put in the carrier is:
Your hamster! :-)|||"you MUST ABSOLUTELY put in the carrier is: Your hamster! "
haha lol. I would say some paper bedding, or a towel or something soft like that. Especially if you're driving to the vets, it can get bumpy!
Even if you're not, something to keep the little guy/girl warm and cosy. Have a water bottle on hand, and drop a few treats in there with your hamster. If he/she won't take water from the bottle, then let them lick it from your finger.
Gotta keep the little one hydrated =)|||If the bottom of the carrier is mesh then put something over it, they might hurt there feet. Also its a good idea to take bedding from there cage to make them feel safe. Finally take some of their favourite treats.|||i normally take some of the sawdust fro the cage in the carrier, but when my last one was ill n i took him 2 the vets i knew he wasnt coming bk alive, so i made it really soft n squishy for him by ripping put toilet tissue and using that bedding material in it. he seemed happy enuf. fell asleep in 2 mins flat once i'd put him in! lol.
i have a rotastac carry case and found it to be the best i've ever had! its only small, but its plently big enuf for a hour trip, it has a hole at one end for a drink bottle (just a bog standart rotastac one) slits all over for air, and is clear in the top so u can see in easily 2 check if he's ok. u can buy them sepreate from the cage if u were intrested in getting a new one, not sure how much they are tho, mine came with the cage.
but as u say u already have one, so yea, just a bit of sawdust from his cage or bedding from it so he dnt panic too much, put some treats in too, and water.
good luck, and im hope ur hamsters ok!|||no, just put an old towel in or some shredded paper.|||use a small carry cage or some of the roat stack products you can block the holes and use this as a carry case. put some sawdust or bedding in, sprinkle some food over the floor because if you put it in a bowl it will just come out. if you can take and tie a water bottle on the side of the cage. if you cant please ask the vet for a small bowl of water when you get there, this can also be a good idea and it will stop your carry cage from getting wet.|||You can put some bedding in there if you want to just to make him/her feel more comfortable. I have a guinea pig and usually put bedding and hay in a box when taking her to the vets.
Good luck : )|||put in a few of his familiar toys from his little house and dont forget to put in some bedding for him to hid in when he gets a bit frightned or sleepy personally myself i whould take him in his own house if possible with a cover over it to make him feel more secure. good luck and hope all goes well for the little guy or girl.oh dont forget a little food and water unless been told other wise by vets.|||Just stuff the carrier with whatever you use for bedding. The ripped up paper stuff is good as it soaks up any urine it may leak and cushions against any bumps.|||wow, you guys fuss to much, just put it in there normal cage or hold it this is common sense ,how can you ask how to make a hamster comfortable, lame as hell...|||best thing for it is shreaded newspaper (by hand) it doesn't need too many but it will make its journey a lot more comfortable|||That's weird, I took my hamster to the vets yesterday!!
We took him in his hamster ball with a little bit of bedding in there in case he felt cold outside and a couple of chocolate drops as a treat for good behaviour!
Your hamster will be fine, just don't drop him/her!! :) xx|||THE HAMSTER YOU MORON!!! LOL|||Just put a little layer of fresh sawdust in the carrier and add a bit of 'used' bedding from his/her cage - it'll smell more familiar then! Hope your hammy is o.k. Good luck!|||hit it with a shovel first. the rest of the journey will fly by in an unconscious daze and give the vet something to do when you get there.,|||I'd put it in loads of bedding and cotton wool so that it can bury itself|||how about some champagne and caviar?|||Give him a pillow and a duvet|||well sky t.v won`t go a miss or a lady friend to chat to..!|||Newspaper would be a good idea incase it wees! maybe a bit of bedding - but it should be fine, it should be quite a short journey. just make sure that the carrier is secure if you're taking it in a car.|||hhhh|||Drive him there in a Rolls royce!!!|||Your hamster...|||Make sure he has access to clean water, if you are unsure of anything go to a local petshop, not a big chain. A local petshop will advise you better than any of the chains. They are store assistants there and will sell you anything no matter how unsuitable it is! The problem with taking a minature version of his home is that he will undoubtedly burrow and you'll have a mission coaxing him out!
